Breakout Session 2C: The Face of Conflict in Asia: Why It Matters For Aspiring Women Leaders
Training Workshop Session
2pm - 3.30pm
Principal Consultant, Best Foot Forward International
A cultural preference in many countries across Asia to preserve harmony or ‘save face’ may be limiting individual and organisational effectiveness and competitive advantage In today’s increasingly global and complex business environment, working with people from different backgrounds and with different perspectives – even different languages, is a day to day reality. Whilst such diversity can drive higher levels of decision-making, creativity and innovation, the potential for misunderstanding, tensions – even conflict, is high. To reap the benefits of diversity therefore, Asians are encouraged to reframe their relationship with conflict. This is not an gender specific issue – but research shows that lack of comfort with conflict adversely impacts women more than men. Professional women around the world are more likely than their male counterparts to be influenced by societal norms and their upbringing in order to avoid conflict and to encourage tolerance and a ‘peaceful’ image. In this workshop, Gulnar Vaswani will lead a thought provoking, interactive, and practical workshop to help your teams in Asia understand, reframe and effectively deal with conflict in the workplace.
